Does your vehicle require a safety certificate for sale or registration?

Coughrans Auto Centre Toowoomba specialise in safety checks and certificates for all cars, trailers, motorbike, caravans and motorhomes.  We are also an RACQ accredited repairer and mechanical workshop.

A general safety certificate inspection will cover the following:
  • Tyre Quality and Tread Depth
  • Brakes and Suspension
  • Body Rust or Damage
  • Interior & Exterior Lights
  • Oil leaks
  • Seat Belts and Restraints
  • Hand Brake
  • Windscreen Wear & Damage

At the conclusion of the inspection, a written certificate will be issued to you by one of our staff members. If any of the elements above in not up to road safety standards our team will advise you of what measure and cost would be involved to resolve the problem.

If your vehicle fails the inspection, you have 14 days to rectify any issues or have us repair the fault, and reschedule an inspection.

If you are selling your vehicle and it is not registered, then you are under no legal requirement to supply potential buyers with a safety certificates for your vehicle.

If you intend to sell your vehicle registered and increase your chances of a smooth successful sale you must provide a successful roadworthy certificate (safety certificates) according to Queensland law. Failure to do so will result in a penalty to you.

A Safety certificates (roadworthy certificate) for private car sales remain valid for a period of two months or 2,000 km, whichever occurs first.
